Long Term Care
What is long-term care?
Long-term
care includes a wide range of medical and support services for those with a
degenerative condition (e.g., Parkinson's Disease), a prolonged illness (e.g.,
cancer), or cognitive disorder (e.g., Alzheimer's Disease). Long-term care is
not necessarily medical care, but rather custodial care.
Custodial
care involves providing an individual assistance with ADLs (Activities of Daily
Living) or supervision of someone who is cognitively impaired.
Long-term
care can be provided in many health and personal care settings such as nursing
homes, assisted living facilities, hospice care facilities, in addition to care
provided at home.
